民進黨發言人王閔生2日晚表示，新北市發生嚴重的粉塵爆炸意外，民進黨中央的50萬元的捐款中，黨主席蔡英文個人就捐助了20萬，同時，蔡的家族與小英基金會也各捐助了50萬元。原本蔡認為不需要特別突顯個人，但網路上有人刻意以訛傳訛，才特此說明。

針對近日網路出現「國內天災人禍，你見過蔡英文捐款嗎？」、「蔡英文新北氣爆一塊錢也沒有捐！」質疑，民進黨2日深夜由王閩生出面說明蔡個人及其家族捐助狀況。王指出，捐款行善本不必刻意張揚，蔡選擇以黨部等其他名義捐款，就是希望和大家一起共襄盛舉，只要真正幫助到需要幫助的人即可，但部分人士以此為話題，甚至用這種不實資訊誤導輿論，不僅對公益毫無益處，更是扭曲了社會價值。

王閔生還說，過去幾年當台灣發生重大災害，蔡不但自己和家人多次慷慨解囊，更帶領黨部發動樂捐，例如八八風災，蔡個人就捐助了100萬元。而監察院近日公布的「廉政專刊」中，蔡的2012總統大選結餘款，去年就有超過1800萬的公益捐助，網路上的謠言不攻自破。
